Come rain or shine, library services are available all summer June 11, 2014

The library services at The Hive will be available for those of you staying in the Worcester area over the summer, apart from on bank holiday August 25th when the building is closed.

Loan periods will stay the same over the summer so that books are available for all students still studying.

If you‘re away from Worcester and plan to take library books with you please be aware that you must be prepared to return any items which may be reserved by others. All online resources will continue to be available for you to use wherever you are based.

Academic Helpdesk: Summer Service (July and August)
Full hours will operate until Saturday 28th June. After that the following will apply –
From Mon 30th June University librarians are available at the Academic Helpdesk on Level 3 in The Hive at the following times:
Monday – Friday: 10:00-16:00. The Enquiries Team can also be contacted via askalibrarian@worc.ac.uk
Please speak to a member of Hive staff if you need help outside these hours.
Full hours resume on Monday 1st September.

FINAL YEAR STUDENTS
If you’re in your final year please ensure your library record is clear of any charges in preparation for graduation. You may continue to use the library services available to Alumni in The Hive once your student account expires. Once you’ve finished your course at the University, simply drop in at any of the Worcestershire libraries, bringing with you some ID (ideally your University Card). A member of staff will issue you with a new card and check that your membership has been changed to Alumni.

British Pathe on YouTube April 29, 2014

The lovely folks at British Pathe have uploaded their entire collection of 85,000 moving images on to YouTube, free, gratis and for nothing. The thousands of clips offer a fascinating insight into 20th century history and life, including the Wright Brothers’ first flight and the world’s first mobile phone (1922!) A real treat.

Student Dissertation Binding April 15, 2014

Student Dissertation Binding this year:

The service runs from Monday 14th April till 1st May 10.00am-4.30pm, Monday-Friday (not running Good Friday or Easter Monday).
The service will operate from PN 1014 in the Peirson Study & Guidance Centre.
Pay for binding at Firstpoint and then take the receipted form up to PN1014 where your work will be bound whilst you wait.
£2.50 per copy.

Dissertations will be fastback bound with a blue or black back cover and a clear acetate front cover.

For the last 3 days of this time period we have been unable to secure the Upper Tower room with Timetabling so we will likely be operating from somewhere in the Firstpoint Foyer on those days. Appropriate signage will be placed on the Upper Tower room doors during those days to avoid confusion.

No Eduroam Wireless Network today until 9.30am March 26, 2014

Today – Wednesday 26th March the Eduroam wireless service will not be working between 8:30-9:30am on the St John’s Campus, all other sites will be unaffected.

Accessing Summon at The Hive? March 18, 2014

If you’re using Summon at The Hive, you’ll find there’s a glitch with this service at the moment. All University online resources are still available. You can get to the online resources via the list in your subject guide in LibGuides (libguides.worc.ac.uk). If you go to the Library Catalogue via the Student Portal you can use the Library Catalogue search box to track down books/ebooks or find ejournals via the Eresources link under the catalogue search box.
We’ll let you know when Summon’s fixed, but in the meantime this should get you around the problem.

Summon is having a wobble March 5, 2014

Hello everyone. Summon is having a bad day. We’ve reported it to our providers and they are moving heaven and earth to restore the service for you. It’s not just us: several other institutions have reported problems, so at least we’re not being picked on!
