Here at ILS, we like nothing more than to give you new and exciting ways to access what you need for your studies (yeah, we’re sad like that). Over the past year, we have been looking into the possibilities of using mobile technologies, particularly for students.

We’re asking you to do a quick poll, just one question, to help us inform our mobile development in the coming year

SAGE knocks the stuffing out of rivals December 20, 2010

One of the services ILS provide is sourcing alternative formats for visually impaired students.  One of the companies involved, SAGE, has won the inaugural JISC TechDis Publisher Lookup Award for library services. This recognises publishers who have been nominated by library staff for their excellent service in supplying books in alternative formats. Many library services are beginning to offer this service thanks to the involvement of publishers like SAGE.

SAGE received the award at the CILIP Digital Information Conference in London on 28 October 2010.

Alistair McNaught, senior advisor at JISC TechDis and brainchild of The JISC TechDis Publisher Lookup Awards, said: “There was a really strong field of candidates. Judges were impressed by the sheer number of nominations for SAGE by library staff and the glowing feedback that highlighted their responsiveness, exemplary standards of service and commitment to end users”

We’re glad to be able to offer this service and many others like it here at the University of Worcester, and congratulate SAGE on all their hard work!

Continuing Problem with catalogue links to MyiLibrary e-books August 2, 2010

Just to update you: We’re still experiencing a  problem with our MyiLibrary e-books.

The problems have now been found to affect student links from the library catalogue and also some staff links from the catalogue.

You can still use the catalogue links, but rather than taking you direct to the webpage for your chosen e-book, they are being re-directed to the MyiLibrary search page, requiring you to search for your chosen title for a second time there.

Data providers MyiLibrary/Ingram Digital are continuing work to restore the catalogue links as a priority. Thank you for your patience.

We’re experiencing a  problem with our MyiLibrary e-books, due to system changes made by the provider on their site overnight.

At present, student links from the library catalogue are affected. You can still use the catalogue links, but rather than taking you direct to the webpage for your chosen e-book, they are being re-directed to the MyiLibrary search page, requiring you to search for your chosen title for a second time there.

Staff links from the library catalogue are unaffected.

We are working to restore the catalogue links as a priority. Thank you for your patience.

Borrowing books from ILS over the vacation June 18, 2010

Please note: any books borrowed over the summer will need to be renewed fortnightly and returned if recalled. We need to ensure that books are in circulation throughout the summer as learning is a year-long activity, not confined to traditional semesters. Feedback from our surveys and contact with colleagues across the institution has reinforced the fact that we need to maximize our resources for all university courses and researchers.
