May I suggest on of our many databases of journal articles. Academic Search Complete is a good place to start for most subjects, or there are specialist databases for health (CINAHL), Sport (Sportdiscus), Education (BREI), Arts and Humanities (JSTOR), Psychology (PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES), Business (BSP) and Science (ScienceDirect). Log in to any of these via the Library Catalogue. Or you can search the whole lot plus dozens of other juicy databases stuffed full of peer-reviewed articles and ebooks via our Summon service (http://summon.worc.ac.uk).

Or you could always come to the library and borrow a book!

If you’ve just come back to Uni, welcome to 2012! You find ILS in the middle of a year of momentous changes, with the release of several new services, which started with the reveal of our new Library Catalogue last summer and the launch of our fantastic new Summon resource discovery service in November. There’s so much more to come, not least the opening of our new library – The Hive – this summer. With all these great new services, it’s time for some of our older ones to make way and enjoy a long-deserved retirement.

Resources Online – for a long time the ILS portal to the library catalogue, plus databases and other e-resources – is one such service.  It’s been replaced by the new Library Catalogue: if you’ve not already become familiar with it, log in through the student portal and take a look. It’s got a modern, clean look and useful features like book jacket images to help you identify the book on library shelves, plus the ability to export records to RefWorks to keep referencing simple and, of course, links to all our other e-resources and services, including Summon!

All existing links to Resources Online will be removed or re-directed to take you through to the new Library Catalogue from next week (w/c Monday 23^rd January). The Resources Online site will remain live for a short period beyond this to allow those of you who have it bookmarked a final chance to migrate to the new Library Catalogue site.

Just a reminder that – as we said before Christmas – we’re now withdrawing our older full-text linking service (which you may have known as ‘Get It at UW’).

We’ve replaced it with a new service, ‘Get it from ILS’! Click on the following link or the button image above and give it a try: Get It from ILS – Journals A-Z.

Links using the new button will start to appear in all your favourite electronic resources and databases soon.

Just as with the old service, clicking on a ‘Get it from ILS’ button will allow you to link to millions of  full-text e-journal articles which ILS provide for YOU completely FREE!

Pro tip: You can find articles from those journals we still have in print through the Library Catalogue or through the new SUMMON service.

Just in case you’re already a little bored and short of things to do on the Christmas break we have new YouTube video for you to watch. Anyone interested in Literature Online, take a look at this new tutorial by English student Amelia Watt. Literature Online provides criticism, biographies, bibliographies and whole texts from a wide variety of authors, poets and playwrights. Take a look.

Thomson Reuters advise that they will be performing maintenance to Web of Knowledge, and ResearcherID this Sunday, 18 December, 2011 beginning at 14:00 GMT.

The maintenance is expected to last approximately 12 hours. During this time, there may be disruption of service and product access, including Web of Knowledge Personalization. Apologies for any inconvenience this might cause.
