3 steps to a bigger brain October 18, 2010

Three steps to a bigger brain, better grades and general self improvement:

  1. Log on to the UW account and go to Resources Online/ E-resources
  2. Select your subject and then click on Oxford Reference Online Premium (OROP)
  3. Use OROP for all your dictionary, map and encyclopaedia needs.

Need to translate a word from another language? Want a timeline of major events? Need a map of Mongolia? Need a reliable biography of a famous person? Want to read a summary of a book? You can do all these things on OROP.

Now, before you drift off, I am aware of Wikipedia. I like Wikipedia. A big online encyclopaedia. Nice. It’s a good place to start when you’re new to a subject. But if you’re new to a subject how do you know what you are reading on Wikipedia is correct? Because anyone (you, me, your neighbour’s 12 year old) can write on Wikipedia. So you may not always be getting the best information. Use Wikipedia. Then back up what you find on OROP. The truth is out there. Go seek.
